Hot Toys' THE JOKER

While I wouldn't call it a problem, nor unhealthy, I am obsessed with Batman. The movies, the comics, the graphic novels, the toys, everything. If my major in university could be Batman, it would be. And if there is a job out there for which the sole qualification is 'Loving Batman as much as possible' and the only interview question is 'Is Batman awesome?', I am a shoe-in.

(Also, the answer is 'yes'.)

So for my first blog entries, there is only one set of toys I could possibly discuss and that would be the new additions to the Dark Knight collection from Hot Toys.

I'll begin with Movie Masters/Hot Toys Joker.

I'll start by saying that I will likely own this no matter what, just for posterity. So with that I can say that it's a gorgeous figure and the paint job on the face is BRILLIANT. The DC Direct 13-inch figure was obviously a great toy, too, but the subtleties here (exposed skin, makeup caked in the wrinkles, the detailing on the hair) really make this. Sure, I miss the purple coat, but look at the shoes! Look at them! Seriously! They're amazing. In fact, the only real flaw I can find with this figure is the same one I can find with the Batman figures from the same collection: the proportions. It's less obvious on Bats because you can dismiss it as his cowl, but the head-to-body ratio seems just a touch off to me and the head therefore a touch large. Not a big deal, but I think I prefer the proportions of the DC Direct figure (where the head actually seems a little small due to bulky clothing). There are also two Batman figures in this group, one featuring the Begins costume and the other in the modified "Hey, I can turn my head!" TDK outfit. The costumes are more streamlined than their DC Direct counterparts, and I'm not sure which version I prefer. Cost-wise, the price tag of the Hot Toys versions can excluse those who aren't die-hard collectors and the DC Direct figures, steep as they are, might be the best bet for those seeking a high-quality, high-end toy without going too far.

Next time: LOOK HOW AWESOME THIS BATPOD IS!

Impressive looking figure

I must say this figure really captures Health as the Joker. Now I need to watch this movie again but on IMAX.
